Product Details

Thin-wall aluminum profile (wall thickness 0.8mm-1.5mm) bending is a precision process in aluminum profile machining. The thinner the wall, the more the material is prone to stress-concentration-induced cracking, wrinkling and cross-section deformation during bending. Many bending shops can handle wall thicknesses above 2mm, but struggle to guarantee accuracy and surface quality for 0.8mm-1.5mm thin-wall profiles.

Shanghai Chuangsi Aluminum Co., Ltd. is equipped with precision CNC bending machines and can undertake precision bending of thin-wall aluminum profiles with wall thickness 0.8mm-1.5mm. We use T5-tempered material combined with a bending radius of at least 3 times the wall thickness to effectively avoid cracking and wrinkling of thin-wall profiles. One-stop delivery covers extrusion, bending, CNC machining and surface treatment.

01 Quality Starts with Raw Materials

Produced from A00 primary aluminum ingot with no scrap aluminum, the material is uniform with stable mechanical properties, ensuring material consistency of thin-wall profiles during bending.

02 Precision Bend Forming

Using T5-tempered material (low springback, good ductility) combined with a bending radius of at least 3 times the wall thickness, we effectively avoid cracking and wrinkling of thin-wall profiles. Angular tolerance ±1 degree, minimum bend dimension 10mm, with no cracks or wrinkles at the bend.

03 Surface Protection Process

The profile surface is protected with PE film, and bending dies are polished and hard-chromium plated to avoid scratches and pressure marks during thin-wall profile bending.

04 One-Stop Delivery Service

One-stop delivery covers the full process from extrusion and bending to CNC machining and surface treatment, so customers only deal with one supplier.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q1: What is the difference between thin-wall aluminum profile bending and conventional wall thickness bending?

A: Conventional wall thickness bending (above 2mm) has a relatively wide process window and good material stability under stress. The difficulty of thin-wall bending (0.8mm-1.5mm) is that the thinner the wall, the more prone the material is to stress-concentration-induced cracking, wrinkling and cross-section deformation during bending. Many bending shops can handle wall thicknesses above 2mm but struggle to guarantee accuracy and surface quality for 0.8mm-1.5mm thin-wall profiles. We use T5-tempered material combined with a bending radius of at least 3 times the wall thickness to effectively avoid cracking and wrinkling of thin-wall profiles.

Q2: Why is thin-wall aluminum profile bending prone to cracking?

A: During cold bending of thin-wall profiles, the outer side of the material is under tensile stress and the inner side under compressive stress. The thinner the wall, the greater the strain at the bend, easily exceeding the material's elongation limit and causing outer tensile cracking or inner compressive wrinkling. We avoid thin-wall cracking by selecting T5-tempered material (good elongation, low springback), controlling the bending radius to at least 3 times the wall thickness, and precisely controlling bending speed and die clearance.

Q3: What is the minimum bending radius for thin-wall aluminum profile bending?

A: The minimum bending radius depends on wall thickness. For 6063-T5 thin-wall profiles (wall thickness 0.8mm-1.5mm), the recommended minimum bending radius is at least 3 times the wall thickness. For example, a 6063-T5 profile with 1mm wall thickness has a minimum bend radius of about 3mm; a 1.5mm wall thickness profile has a minimum bend radius of about 4.5mm. Too small a bending radius causes outer tensile cracking or inner wrinkling at the bend.

Q4: How is surface scratching prevented during thin-wall aluminum profile bending?

A: Thin-wall profiles have high surface quality requirements, so surface protection needs special attention during bending. We take double protection: first, the profile surface is covered with PE film to avoid direct contact with the die that causes scratches; second, bending dies are polished and hard-chromium plated to reduce surface roughness. After bending, 100% inspection confirms surface quality, meeting the surface requirements of electronic equipment housings and medical equipment appearance parts.

Q5: How is thin-wall bending charged?

A: Pricing is based on wall thickness, number of bend passes and length. The thinner the wall and the more bend passes, the higher the process difficulty. We provide free sample evaluation and quotation; welcome to contact Manager Du at 13611846009.

Q6: What is the MOQ and lead time for thin-wall aluminum profile bending?

A: MOQ is 50kg, supporting small-batch prototyping. Sample lead time is 5-7 days (standard cross-section), and bulk lead time is 7-15 days after sample confirmation. Thin-wall bending requires trial bending to verify cracking and wrinkling risk, so we recommend confirming the bend effect at the sample stage before bulk production.
