10-9090A is a 90×90mm square aluminum profile from the European-standard 10 series (10mm slot width), 6063-T5 alloy, wall thickness 4.5mm, weight per meter 7.50kg/m, moment of inertia 110.00cm⁴. It is the largest cross-section and highest absolute-stiffness grade among stocked specifications, and its stiffness-to-weight ratio of 14.67 is also the best in the whole series —at this size, the efficiency advantage of aluminum profiles comes back. It is used where"a single upright must carry the whole machine".
Why the largest specification actually has the highest efficiency
Ranking the whole series by stiffness-to-weight ratio, the two end specifications have the highest efficiency and the middle ones are lower:
| Specification | Weight per meter | Moment of inertia | Stiffness / weight ratio |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6-2020 | 0.50 kg/m | 1.20 cm⁴ | 2.40 |
| 8-3030 | 0.85 kg/m | 3.20 cm⁴ | 3.76 |
| 8-4040 | 1.45 kg/m | 8.52 cm⁴ | 5.88 |
| 8-5050 | 2.20 kg/m | 17.80 cm⁴ | 8.09 |
| 8-6060 | 3.20 kg/m | 36.00 cm⁴ | 11.25 |
| 10-4590 | 4.50 kg/m | 58.00 cm⁴ | 12.89 |
| 10-9090A | 7.50 kg/m | 110.00 cm⁴ | 14.67 |
The reason is still cross-section height: moment of inertia grows with the cube of height, while material grows only linearly with perimeter. The 90mm square places material in the most effective position, so the stiffness per kilogram is more than double that of the 50 square.
Practical implication:If you truly need very high stiffness, choosing the large specification in one step saves more material and uses fewer connection points than assembling multiple small specifications.

When is 110.00cm⁴ really needed?
- A single upright carries the whole machine weight: when the load cannot be split across multiple small uprights (space constraints, or the center must be kept clear).
- Gantry beam spans are very large: as the beam span increases, both 8-4080 (39.00cm⁴) and 10-4590 (58.00cm⁴) noticeably sag, requiring a higher grade.
- Withstand hoisting or handling shocks: the whole machine must be lifted and moved by forklift; the dynamic load factor is far higher than static, so the margin must be ample.
- The equipment runs long-term and must not be adjusted afterward: once installed there is no second chance for correction, so rigidity must be given in full up front.
- Bases of large heavy equipment: the base itself must serve as"foundation"; insufficient rigidity makes the whole machine's precision adjustment meaningless.
If you just want"a bit more stability"without naming a specific load case, usually 8-6060 is enough. The threshold for 10-9090A should be a clear load calculation, not a feeling.
Accessories and delivery
All four faces have 10mm standard slots and work with 10-series accessories (same system as 10-4590 and 10-5050).Not interchangeable at all with the 8 series or 6 series— the angle-bracket specifications for the 60 square and 90 square also differ, so connectors must be matched separately by profile size.
Stocked inventory, standard length 6.02m, sold from 1 meter. It can be cut to specified lengths per drawings with a cutting accuracy of ±0.5mm; for large-size parts, drilling, tapping and notch milling should be specified with the order and shipped directly to site after machining, avoiding on-site secondary work that would affect accuracy. Production in Qingpu, Shanghai; delivery within Shanghai city.
FAQ
How much difference is there between 10-9090A and 8-6060?
Moment of inertia 110.00cm⁴ vs. 36.00cm⁴, about 3×; weight per meter 7.50 vs. 3.20kg/m, about 2.3×. Stiffness grows faster than weight, so the large specification is not"simply thicker"but a more efficient choice — provided you really need this level of stiffness.
Won't the 90 square be too heavy to assemble?
Weight per meter is 7.50kg/m, and a full 6m piece weighs about 45kg, requiring two people or hoisting. Machined parts should be cut to assembly dimensions before entering the site, rather than lifting full pieces and cutting on site.
Can it serve as a guide-rail mounting base?
The 90 square has enough rigidity, but a guide-rail base also requires straightness and mounting-surface flatness, which moment of inertia alone cannot solve. For such uses, either add a steel guide-rail seat or raise the accuracy requirements for separate evaluation before ordering.
Can 10-series and 8-series accessories be mixed?
No. The 10mm slot differs from the 8mm slot; nuts, angle brackets and end caps are all non-interchangeable. When two systems coexist in a project, accessories must be stored and labeled separately.
Is it in stock? What length can it be cut to?
It is a stocked specification, 6.02m fixed length, cut to any length per drawings, sold from 1 meter, with a cutting accuracy of ±0.5mm.
