10-4590 is an European-standard 10-series (groove width 10mm) 45×90mm rectangular cross-section aluminum profile, 6063-T5 alloy, wall thickness 3.0mm, weight per meter 4.50kg/m, moment of inertia 58.00cm⁴ in the 90mm height direction and 15.50cm⁴ in the 45mm direction. Among all stocked specifications, it is the tier that"a single crossbeam can span the maximum distance", offering 49% higher rigidity than 8-4080. The trade-off is that it belongs to the 10-series system: 10mm groove width, fittings not interchangeable with the 8-series — once you use it, logistics and spare parts must be split accordingly.
Calculate first: is 58.00cm⁴ worth 4.50kg/m?
Placed side by side with the strongest rectangular profile in the 8-series, the conclusion is somewhat surprising:
| Specification | System | Weight per meter | Strong-axis moment of inertia | Rigidity / weight ratio |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8-4080 | 8-series | 2.80 kg/m | 39.00 cm⁴ | 13.93 |
| 10-4590 | 10-series | 4.50 kg/m | 58.00 cm⁴ | 12.89 |
| 10-9090A | 10-series | 7.50 kg/m | 110.00 cm⁴ | 14.67 |
In terms of"rigidity per kilogram", 8-4080 is actually more cost-effective (13.93 vs. 12.89).So the purpose of 10-4590 is not to save material, butthe only solution when absolute rigidity is insufficient: when the span is already so large that 8-4080 visibly deflects, and adding intermediate columns is not allowed, that is when it comes into play.
Three legitimate reasons to choose it:
- Span and load already exceed the capability of 8-4080, requiring the 58.00cm⁴ range;
- The 10mm groove can accommodate thicker bolts and stronger angle brackets, requiring the 10-series at the connection nodes themselves;
- 3.0mm wall thickness provides greater margin for tapping and repeated assembly/disassembly than the 8-series.

The 10-series and 8-series differ in more than just dimensions
The groove width changing from 8mm to 10mm affects the entire connection scheme:
- Bolt size goes up one grade: the 10-series groove accepts thicker bolts, so heavy-load connections do not need to rely on quantity.
- Angle brackets and connection plates are not interchangeable: 8-series angle brackets do not fit into 10-series grooves, and vice versa. When two systems coexist in a project, fittings must be stocked separately.
- T-slot nuts are not interchangeable: nuts for 8mm and 10mm grooves have different widths, and forced installation causes play.
- Cover panels, end caps, and caster wheels also have different sizes: appearance parts must also be matched by series.
So before deciding to use the 10-series, confirm one thing:is this project going all-in on the 10-series. If only one crossbeam needs upgrading, using 8-4080 or a double-built-up beam is more convenient.
Typical usage positions
- Main longitudinal beams of large conveyor lines: long line length, restricted intermediate columns, crossbeams must be right the first time.
- Crossbeams of gantry-type equipment: columns fixed on both sides, must span across the middle; crossbeam deflection directly affects machining or inspection precision.
- Heavy-load material handling frames: the load unit itself is heavy, node forces are high, and the 10-series groove width provides greater margin.
- Long-span top beams: protective or load-bearing top crossbeams where span exceeds 2m and supports cannot be added.
- Paired with 10-9090A columns: columns 10-9090A, crossbeam 10-4590 — a heavy-duty combination of the same system.
Fittings and delivery
All four sides feature standard 10mm grooves, compatible only with 10-series fittings. Not interchangeable with the 8-series or 6-series— this is the easiest pitfall in this project: when 8-series and 10-series profiles both arrive on site, fittings must be clearly labeled and stored separately.
Regular stock, standard length 6.02m, sold from 1 meter, cutting precision ±0.5mm, can be cut to drawings; drilling, tapping, and milling notches can also be requested. Produced in Qingpu, Shanghai; delivery within Shanghai city is available.
FAQ
How to choose between 10-4590 and 8-4080?
First look at the span. The 39.00cm⁴ of 8-4080 covers most 1-2m crossbeam requirements; for larger spans, or when 8-4080 already visibly deflects, go to the 58.00cm⁴ of 10-4590. If the project already uses 10-series fittings, choosing 10-4590 directly is more consistent; if the entire system is 8-series, switching to 10-series for a single crossbeam is not cost-effective.
Can 8-series fittings be installed in 10-series grooves?
No. The 10-series groove is 10mm wide, but 8-series fittings are designed for 8mm — installed, they will be loose and cannot be tightened. Conversely, 10-series fittings cannot fit into 8-series grooves.
Can 10-4590 be placed horizontally?
Yes, but the rigidity is completely different: 58.00cm⁴ in the 90mm direction vs. only 15.50cm⁴ in the 45mm direction, a 3.7-fold difference. When used as a crossbeam, the 90mm dimension must be vertical — this is a fundamental prerequisite for this type of rectangular profile.
Can two 8-4080 beams be built up into one?
Yes, a double built-up beam significantly improves rigidity and is a common practice. However, it introduces new issues: connectors at the joint occupy space, and overall consistency depends on assembly quality. When span requirements are very high, choosing 10-4590 directly is often more convenient and more controllable.
Is it in stock?
This is a regularly stocked specification, 6.02m fixed length, can be cut as needed, sold from 1 meter.
