8-6060 is an European-standard 8-series (slot width 8mm) 60x60mm square aluminum profile, 6063-T5 alloy, wall thickness 3.0mm, weight per meter 3.20kg/m, moment of inertia 36.00cm⁴. It is the"smallest 8-series square size that can independently serve as a column": isotropic in cross-section, can carry fittings on all four sides, and is 4.23 times stiffer than 8-4040. For equipment main frames, robot bases, and gantry columns where"both stability and four-way mounting are required,"it is more suitable than rectangular tubing.
Core advantage of 60-square: isotropic + four-way mounting
Rectangular tubing (8-4080, 10-4590) is strong in one direction but noticeably weaker in the other; 60-square has 36.00cm⁴ in both directions,so you never worry about orientation.This is very practical on site:
- columns and beams use the same material, lowering the risk of cutting the wrong stock;
- all four faces are standard slots, so there is a connection point no matter which side you join from;
- nodes need no special directional design, and assemblers are less likely to misread the drawings.
The trade-off is weight. 8-6060 weighs 3.20kg/m, even higher than 8-4080's 2.80kg/m - but 8-4080 is 39.00cm⁴ only in the 80mm direction and much weaker in the 40mm direction.If you need"either direction to work,"then 60-square is the worry-free solution..

The real trade-off between 8-6060 and rectangular tubing
| Size | Cross-section | Weight per meter | Strong-axis moment of inertia | Weak-axis moment of inertia | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8-5050 | 50×50 | 2.20 kg/m | 17.80 cm⁴ | 17.80 cm⁴ | Medium frames, longer columns |
| 8-6060 | 60×60 | 3.20 kg/m | 36.00 cm⁴ | 36.00 cm⁴ | Heavy frames, robot bases |
| 8-4080 | 40×80 | 2.80 kg/m | 39.00 cm⁴ | Significantly below strong axis | Large-span beams (requires oriented placement) |
| 10-4590 | 45×90 | 4.50 kg/m | 58.00 cm⁴ | 15.50 cm⁴ | Heavy beams (10-series fittings) |
The verdict is straightforward:
- If you need a column with four-way mounting, go with 8-6060. Its 36.00cm⁴ is isotropic, while 8-4080 is only one-directional.
- If it is only a beam and the direction is fixed, go with 8-4080. For the same stiffness, it weighs 0.40kg/m less.
- For heavy beams where 10-series fittings are acceptable, go with 10-4590. 58.00cm⁴, but you must switch the whole fitting system.
Where it is commonly used
- Equipment main-frame columns: when the unit is over 1.5m tall with equipment at the top or offset load, 60-square is the safe choice.
- Robot mounting bases: the base must be stable before precision matters; 8-6060 is the common starting point for heavy aluminum profile bases.
- Gantry and truss columns: beams can use 8-4080 or 10-4590, while columns are better in 8-6060.
- Large guarding fence columns: for large spans and heavy panels, 40-square wobbles while 60-square improves markedly.
- Structures subjected to lifting/handling: when the unit is lifted or moved by forklift, connection nodes see greater forces than static, and 60-square has ample margin.
Fittings and delivery
All four faces have 8mm standard slots, compatible with 8-series fittings: angle brackets, connecting plates, foot anchors, leveling feet, and lifting parts. Note that 60-square connectors differ from 40-square and 50-square angle brackets; mixing them causes misaligned holes.
Regularly stocked, standard length 6.02m, sold from 1 meter. Cutting precision ±0.5mm, cut to drawings; drilling, tapping, and notch milling can be arranged together. Made in Qingpu, Shanghai; delivery within Shanghai city available.
FAQ
Is 8-6060 enough for a robot base?
For small-to-medium robots (standard load range), 8-6060 as the base frame is common practice, but base design must account for foot-anchor fixing, load eccentricity, and acceleration/deceleration. Once you have a specific model and conditions, share the parameters and we will judge whether you need to step up to 10-9090A.
Which is stiffer, 8-6060 or 8-4080?
In a single direction, 8-4080's 80mm direction is 39.00cm⁴, slightly above 8-6060's 36.00cm⁴; but in the other direction 8-4080 is clearly lower. So using 8-4080 for beams and 8-6060 for columns takes the best of each; neither is universally stronger.
Is 60-square too heavy?
Weight per meter is 3.20kg/m, 1.0kg/m more than 8-5050 and 1.75kg/m more than 8-4040. If the unit has self-weight constraints (e.g. frequent moving, or limited floor load), you can substitute locally: columns in 8-6060, the rest in 8-4040.
Is 8-6060 in stock?
Yes, it is a regularly stocked size in 6.02m fixed length, cut as needed, sold from 1 meter.
Can you do a complete aluminum profile frame solution?
Standard profiles are supplied directly from stock and shipped cut to length; if the whole frame needs selection advice, connector packages, or machining, we can discuss it per drawings.
