Product Details

8-3060 is a European standard 8-series (slot width 8mm) 30x60mm rectangular cross-section aluminum profile, 6063-T5 alloy, wall thickness 2.0mm, weight 1.60kg/m. The moment of inertia is 13.20cm⁴ in the 60mm height direction and 3.50cm⁴ in the 30mm width direction, a 3.8x difference between the two directions. Its best position isthe 30mm narrow edge, for frames that need to save space while resisting bending: equipment side frames, door frames, wall-mounted columns, thin frames.

Where the value of the 30mm narrow edge lies

Many equipment positions have"insufficient width but ample height": only 30-some millimeters remain on the side of a cabinet, yet the clear height under the tabletop is plentiful. A 40-square cannot fit in such a position, while a 20-square cannot bear the load; 8-3060 is made for these tight gaps.

There is one hard rule for its use:Let the 60mm stand in the bending direction.

  • As a column: place the 60mm along the force direction, and both bending and buckling resistance rely on this dimension; the 30mm side faces the cabinet wall or equipment side, taking up minimal space.
  • As a door frame: use 60mm as the frame's height direction so the sag caused by the door panel's own weight is absorbed; use 30mm as the frame thickness so hinges do not look bulky.
  • If placed the other way around (30mm toward the bending direction), it is equivalent to having less than the stiffness of 8-3030, and the 13.20cm⁴ figure is completely wasted.

Choosing Between 8-3060, 8-4040 and 8-4080

SpecificationCross-SectionWeight per MeterMoment of InertiaSpace FootprintSuitable For
8-303030×300.85 kg/m3.20 cm⁴Isotropic, small footprintSmall frames, panel frames
8-306030×601.60 kg/m13.20 / 3.50 cm⁴Thin on one side, strong on the otherDoor frames, side frames, wall-mounted columns
8-404040×401.45 kg/m8.52 cm⁴Isotropic, easy mounting on four sidesEquipment main frames, workbenches
8-408040×802.80 kg/m39.00 cm⁴ (80mm direction)Suitable for long-span beamsConveyor load-bearing beams, gantry beams

Three decision rules:

  • If footprint is not an issue and accessories are needed on all four sides, choose 8-4040; do not struggle with rectangular material.
  • If only one direction is constrained (only 30mm available), choose 8-3060, which is 4 times stronger than 8-3030.
  • If spanning over 1m without adding columns, choose 8-4080; the 13.20cm⁴ of 8-3060 is not enough.

Another often-overlooked point: the 1.60kg/m weight of 8-3060 is actually higher than the 1.45kg/m of 8-4040, but its stiffness is 1.5 times greater. In narrow-edge situations, rectangular material truly saves money; in situations requiring accessories on all four sides, rectangular material is instead more expensive.

Typical Uses of 8-3060

  • Equipment side and back frames: when cabinet side space is compressed, place the 30mm against the wall and let the 60mm carry the bending moment of panels and internal parts.
  • Protection door frames: the heavier the door panel, the more obvious the frame sag; the 13.20cm⁴ of 8-3060 is exactly consumed in the door panel's self-weight direction.
  • Thin-frame columns: for wall-mounted equipment limited in total thickness, use the 30mm face outward.
  • Conveyor line side-guard frames: guard height is usually around 60mm, aligning perfectly with the profile cross-section.
  • Longitudinal reinforcement beams under tabletops: when tabletop span is small but sag must be controlled, this is more convenient than adding a row of 8-3030.

Accessories and Delivery

Of the six faces of 8-3060, slots on the long edges follow the 8-series standard and are interchangeable with 8-series angle brackets, T-nuts and end caps. Cutting accuracy is ±0.5mm, and material can be cut to drawings; note any slot milling, drilling or tapping needs when ordering.6-series and 10-series accessories are not interchangeable with 8-series; mixing series across will not fit.

Regular stock, standard length 6.02m, sold from 1 meter. Produced in Qingpu, Shanghai; door-to-door delivery available within Shanghai.

FAQ

Can 8-3060 be used horizontally?

Yes, but the bending resistance is completely different. With 60mm upright, the moment of inertia is 13.20cm⁴; with 30mm upright, only 3.50cm⁴, a nearly 4x difference. Placed the wrong way during assembly is the most common reason for rework on this type of rectangular material.

Which is stronger, 8-3060 or 8-4040?

It depends on the direction. 8-3060 is stronger in the 60mm direction (13.20 vs 8.52) and weaker in the 30mm direction (3.50 vs 8.52). So"which is stronger"has no single answer; it depends on the force direction, which is also why square and rectangular material cannot simply replace each other.

Will a door frame made with 8-3060 sag?

Under conventional door panel weight and height, it will not sag noticeably, provided the 60mm is upright and hinges are fixed on the 60mm side. When door width exceeds 1m or the panel is very heavy, we recommend upsizing to 8-4080 or adding a middle cross-brace.

Is 8-3060 in stock?

Yes, it is a regularly stocked specification, 6.02m fixed length, cut to order, sold from 1 meter.
