Aerospace-grade aluminum profiles are key basic materials in the aerospace and high-end equipment manufacturing fields.
Product Details
Aerospace-grade aluminum profiles are key basic materials in the aerospace and high-end equipment manufacturing fields. Due to its low density, high specific strength, corrosion resistance, and recyclability, aluminum alloys have become a core material for high-end equipment structural components such as aircraft, spacecraft, drones, and military equipment. 7075 aluminum alloy is an aluminum-zinc-magnesium-copper heat-treatable strengthened high-strength deformable aluminum alloy. It is a representative alloy among superhard aluminum and is used to manufacture a wide variety of structural components, especially aerospace vehicle structural components.
With the rapid development of industries such as domestically produced large aircraft (C919), low-altitude aircraft (industrial drones), and commercial aerospace, the demand for aerospace-grade aluminum alloy profiles continues to grow. From aircraft fuselage trusses, wing ribs, and landing gear supports to drone arms, spacecraft structural components, and missile cabins, the application fields of aerospace-grade aluminum profiles are constantly expanding.
Shanghai Chuansi Aluminum focuses on the core requirements of "ultra-high strength, ultra-high precision, ultra-low internal stress, and lightweighting" for aerospace-grade aluminum profiles, providing one-stop services for the entire process, from cross-sectional structure design, mold development, and high-precision profile extrusion (cooperative production line) to CNC precision machining, flaw detection, and surface treatment.
01 Quality starts with raw materials
High-purity aviation-grade aluminum alloy produced using A00 virgin aluminum ingots, containing no waste aluminum, with pure materials and dense structure. Various aviation-grade materials such as 7075-T6 (aircraft structural components, ultra-high strength scenarios, tensile strength ≥524MPa), 2A12 (2024) (fuselage skin, fatigue resistance scenarios), 7050 (stress corrosion resistance scenarios), and 6061-T6 (drone frames, general aviation structures) can be selected according to the stress conditions and performance requirements of aviation equipment. The specifications, characteristics, and strict quality requirements for aluminum alloy profiles in aerospace aluminum projects are far higher than those for ordinary industrial profiles.
02 Aviation-grade ultra-high strength materials
After T6 solution and artificial aging, the tensile strength of 7075-T6 at room temperature reached 524MPa, the 0.2% yield strength was stable at 455MPa, the elongation was maintained at 11%, and the hardness was 150HB. The T6 state has the highest static strength, maintaining high strength below 150℃, and has particularly good low-temperature strength, comparable to that of ordinary steel. 2A12 (2024) aluminum alloy has a tensile strength of ≥420MPa, good fatigue resistance and fracture toughness, and is an ideal material for aircraft skins, wing ribs and other structural components. 7050 is a high-strength heat-treatable alloy with extremely high strength and resistance to flaking corrosion and stress corrosion fracture.
03 Ultra-precision molds and high-precision extrusion
The dimensional accuracy requirements of aerospace grade aluminum profiles are much higher than those of ordinary industrial profiles. Using imported high-end mold steel, the mold cavity accuracy can reach ±0.01mm through slow wire precision machining and mirror polishing process. Dimensional tolerances at key assembly points can be stably controlled between ±0.02mm and ±0.03mm. Can produce super-large materials with a circumscribed circle diameter of 600-700mm.
04 High-precision CNC machining
Equipped with precision equipment such as a five-axis linkage CNC machining center, it can complete deep machining processes such as precision cutting, end face milling, precision boring, and drilling and tapping of aerospace-grade profiles. CNC machining accuracy can reach ±0.01-0.005mm, meeting the stringent assembly requirements of aerospace equipment.
05 Full-process quality control and flaw detection testing
Aviation-grade aluminum profiles have extremely high internal quality requirements. The production process is equipped with multiple quality control nodes, which can be combined with non-destructive testing methods such as ultrasonic flaw detection and penetration flaw detection to ensure that there are no defects such as cracks, pores, or inclusions inside the profiles. Each batch provides a three-coordinate full-size inspection report, a material inspection report, and a mechanical property inspection report. It can comply with the requirements of GJB (National Military Standard) and implement the ISO9001 quality management system.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q1: What is the difference between aerospace-grade aluminum profiles and ordinary industrial aluminum profiles?
A: There are five core differences between aerospace-grade aluminum profiles and ordinary industrial aluminum profiles: First, the material grades are different—aerospace-grade uses high-strength aluminum alloys such as 7075-T6, 2A12 (2024), and 7050, while ordinary industrial profiles are mostly 6063-T5 and 6061-T6; Secondly, it has different mechanical properties—aerospace-grade 7075-T6 has a tensile strength of ≥524MPa, which is nearly twice that of 6061-T6 (≥290MPa); Third, the dimensional accuracy is different—the tolerance of key assembly positions in aerospace grade is ≤±0.02mm, which is much higher than that of ordinary industrial profiles; Fourth, there are different internal quality requirements—aerospace-grade equipment needs to be equipped with non-destructive testing such as ultrasonic flaw detection and penetration flaw detection; Fifth, the quality system is different—aviation-grade can meet the requirements of GJB (National Military Standard).
Q2: What is the strength of 7075 aerospace aluminum profiles?
A: After T6 solid solution and artificial aging, 7075-T6 has a room temperature tensile strength of ≥524 MPa, a 0.2% yield strength of ≥455 MPa, an elongation of ≥11%, and a hardness of 150HB. The T6 state has the highest static strength, maintaining high strength below 150℃ and exhibiting particularly good low-temperature strength. With strength comparable to ordinary steel, it is one of the strongest aluminum alloys currently commercially available. 7075 is used in ultra-high strength scenarios such as wing main beams, 2A12 is used in fatigue resistance scenarios such as fuselage skins, and 7050 is used in stress corrosion resistance scenarios.
Q3: Where are 7075 and 2A12 used in aircraft structures?
A: 7075-T6 has extremely high strength (tensile strength ≥ 524MPa) and is mainly used in ultra-high strength scenarios such as aircraft structural components, wing main beams, landing gear support structures, and drone landing gear. Its impact resistance is 20% better than that of carbon fiber. The 2A12 (2024) has a tensile strength of ≥420MPa and excellent fatigue resistance. It is mainly used in applications such as fuselage skin, wing ribs, and fatigue resistance structures. The long front truss of the C919 large passenger aircraft is made of 7075 aluminum alloy profiles.
Q4: What are the flaw detection and testing requirements for aerospace-grade aluminum profiles?
A: It can be used with two non-destructive testing methods: ultrasonic flaw detection - to detect whether there are cracks, pores, inclusions and other defects inside the profile; Penetration inspection - detects whether there are micro-cracks, folds and other defects on the surface of profiles. The inspection standards for 7075 aluminum alloy extruded profiles are extremely strict, requiring each piece to be inspected for flaws to ensure that there are no defects inside the profiles. Each batch provides a three-coordinate full-size inspection report, a material inspection report, and a mechanical property inspection report, which can meet the requirements of GJB (National Military Standard).
Q5: What is the mold opening cycle and minimum order quantity for aerospace-grade aluminum profiles?
A: The normal structural mold opening cycle is 8-12 days for sampling, and 12-18 days after sample confirmation for batch delivery. Supports 50kg R&D prototyping. 6061-T6 general aviation structure sampling takes 8-10 days; 7075-T6 ultra-high strength structure samples will be produced in 10-12 days; 2A12 (2024) fatigue resistance structure will be sampled in 10-12 days; Samples of high-requirement structural components requiring flaw detection will be produced in 12-14 days. Aviation-grade aluminum profiles have a longer delivery time than ordinary industrial profiles due to their special materials (2-series/7-series alloys are difficult to extrude), stringent accuracy requirements, and the need for flaw detection.
